Hello Everybody!

Tom from Myspace |
I realize that my title is a little stiff but hey.. this is my first blog ever. A phrase I've never heard before in social media but I definitely enjoy is "Feeding the Content Monster". To me, it basically sums up what managing a successful social media account is all about. It starts with picking a screen name you won't regret later. I can think of one example, an artist and YouTube guru by the name of
George Miller. He was originally Filthy Frank and was known for being completely outrageous. Now he's known by @sushitrash and Joji and is strictly a singer/song writer. I watched an interview with him recently and he mentioned that the name Sushitrash has no meaning and he just randomly picked it. Not a terribly smart idea in my opinion, especially if you're trying to reinvent yourself. Another big thing about social media is having a memorable profile picture. For me the most memorable profile picture of all time is Tom from Myspace. I can remember a time when he was everybody's first friend on Myspace. I wonder why he chose this picture because it's not flattering at all. A good profile picture has professional lighting. Lighting such as natural lighting, or front facing lighting. Tom looks as if he is under florescent lighting and possibly hasn't showered in a couple days.. but I digress. Getting a good handle on the vanity of your profile is the easy part. The part that takes dedication is the content part. Not just content, it should be trending topics and stuff people can relate to. There are people out there who are dedicated to the mathematical aspects of posting content and use websites such as
Hubspot, or
Buffer. Then, there are people who are more my tempo and practice the "Spray and Pray" technique (Throw a lot of stuff out there and hope it works). I could definitely see myself using a combination of both these techniques later in the future. If there is one thing I've realized it's that social media is a full time gig, and is one of the most interesting subjects out there.
