League of Legends
As many of you may, or may not know the Ohio Northern University has a new e-sports program this year, and as of right now the program hosts two different online competitive games. League of Legends is one of the two games, and it's a game a lot of people know what it is, but don't know anything about it. League of Legends (abbreviated LoL, or League) is a 3D, third-person multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game. LoL was developed and published by Riot Games, and is a free-to-play game supported by micro-transactions within the game. Such micro-transactions include buying champions, or different skins for your champions.
League consists of three current running game modes: Summoner's Rift, Twisted Treeline, and Howling Abyss. Players compete in matches, lasting anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes on average. In each game mode, teams work together to achieve a victory, typically destroying the main structure (called the Nexus) in the enemy team's base after bypassing a line of defensive structures called turrets, or towers. League is above all else, a strategic game that requires skill and knowledge of each champion, and their specific abilities. Players are given rankings based on the Elo rating system, with proprietary adjustments made by Riot Games. These ratings are used in automated matchmaking to make games with players of comparable skill level on each team. The highest rank you can be in League is Challenger, and the lowest is Iron.
League has the largest footprints of any game in streaming media communities on platforms such as YouTube, and Twitch; it routinely ranks first in the most-watched hours. Watching streams of League of Legends is a good way to learn how to play the game more in depth. Another way is to watch YouTube tutorials on the basics of how to play.

I have never played League but had a bunch of friends back home that were really into the game. They would always talk about the different levels they would play together or the funny stories that would happen. I have never been much of a gamer but I felt like I was missing out on the fun. maybe I'll have to try the game.
