Staying Safe this Halloween

As Halloween night approaches, I've noticed the talk among my college peers pertains to everyone's plans for said evening. Plans meaning, "Where's the party at?" As I unwillingly listened out of morbid curiosity, I noticed some plans sounded fun while others sounded sketchy. Going to parties and letting loose are part of the college experience, but putting yourself in danger and being careless are not.

Halloween safety tips are important to keep in mind when going out, so you're not blindsided if caught in a sticky situation. The first thing you can start thinking of even before Halloween is choosing your costume wisely. Sky-high heels, and too-tight dresses can restrict your movement. Also masks and wigs can accidentally cover your eyes, impairing your vision. If your vision is impaired/ have improper shoes on you're more likely to slip and fall, and could hurt yourself. Another VERY IMPORTANT, yet sometimes forgotten tip is, always watch your drink. Never accept a beverage from someone you don't know, and never leave your drink unattended. If you step away from your drink even for a few seconds, get a new one. College is a social place, but be on your toes when meeting new people who are wearing costumes, especially outfits that hide their faces or change their voices. That person might have ill intentions.

There are more tips included in the "Halloween safety tips" link I provided in this blog. It's worth giving a quick read, especially if you have plans to go out this Halloween evening. One last piece of advice is to always trust your instincts, because if something doesn't feel right, leave. Your safety is worth more than a party.

  1. Abby,
Honestly while all my friends were planning to drink and dance last weekend I was sitting there at the corner of the room googling common accidents that happen during halloween time. I also get scared easily plus this was my first Halloween party. Thanks for the trip I'll keep that in mind this weekend if I decide to go to another Halloween party.
