Esports Events for ONU
This upcoming weekend is packed with esports events for Ohio Northern University. This Saturday the esports teams of Overwatch and League of Legends will have conference matches against Trine University. The Overwatch team is 7 - 0 with their matches and are confident they will win against Trine. The League team is 6 - 0 with their matches and it looks as though they will be evenly matched with Trine. Head Coach Chiefari says, "All the players on both teams are around the same rank so it will prove to be entertaining matches to watch." Students can view the matches on Saturday in the IT conference room starting at 11 a.m. for the Overwatch matches and at noon for the League matches. If you don't feel like getting out and about the link to view the matches online is twitch.tv/onu_esports.
This Sunday proves to be exciting as well because the League of Legends World Finals will be happening and the esports program is hosting a viewing party of the event. The viewing party will be held in the activities room in the McIntosh building starting at 7 a.m. If you're wondering why so early it's because the world finals are being held in Paris, France and Paris is six hours ahead of us. The 2019 League of Legends World Championship is the ninth world championship for League of Legends. The two teams that will be playing in the finals are FunPlus Phoenix which is a Chinese team and G2 Esports which is a European team. Coach Chiefari expects a crowd of around 30 or 40 people which in my opinion is a great turnout.
