First We Feast

Celebrity interviews can be boring and almost painful to watch. The interviewers ask obvious-answer questions and only seem to care about gossip. However, there is one celebrity interview web series I love to watch and look forward to every episode.

Hot Ones is a web series created by Christopher Schonberger and produced by First We Feast and Complex Media. Its basic premise involves celebrities being interviewed by host Sean Evans over a platter of increasingly spicy chicken or vegan wings. Evans and his guests eat 10 wings each prepared with a progressively hotter sauce. At the beginning of every show Evans says the show's tagline: "The show with hot questions, and even hotter wings." The first sauce is usually relatively mild such as sriracha and the last sauce is Hot Ones' own The Last Dab and has a Scoville rating of 2,000,000+. After taking a bite of a wing Evans asks his guest an interview question. As the wings get hotter the guest begins to display the effects of eating the spicier wings and the interview becomes less about the guest and more about the struggle to finish the 10 wings. The guests are provided a beverage of their choice and whatever else they might need to complete the wings. One guest went so far as to bring rice with her in hopes it would dull the spice. If a guest doesn't finish all 10 wings they are put into the Hall of Shame.

I enjoy watching these interviews because there's nothing else out there like them. Hot Ones is unique and is genuinely entertaining to watch. Sean Evans also does an outstanding job as a host and his interview style is intelligent and researched. You can find all the episodes on YouTube.
